The cenotes are natural pools that get water from underground rivers, these can be found as caves or open under the sky. Nowadays locals and tourists love to visit these places mostly because of its cold water that refreshes the soul on a hot and sunny day. In Riviera Maya, there is a big cenote considered the biggest one in the whole country; the Blue Cenote or Cenote Azul.

What can I find here?

This cenote is an open one, and people say it looks like a big natural pool made out of limestone. Unlike many other cenotes that can be up to 40 meters deep, this one has many shallow parts that can be perfect for kids to play and swim without worrying about drownings and accidents. Also, there are other parts a little bit deeper, which has also lots of fishes and underwater plants that make it perfect for snorkeling.

It is important to mention that keepers take their job seriously, so it is not permitted to enter with coolers, any kind of food or drinks, nor any kind of sunscreen or sun tanning creams. To keep these natural places as clean and pristine as possible is important, for it is considered as a natural sanctuary where different kinds of animals and plants coexist.

How to get there.

This oasis in the middle of the jungle is located next to the highway from Playa del Carmen to Tulum, approximately 25 minutes away by car from Playa del Carmen which in turn is 37 minutes away from Puerto Morelos and 1 hour from Cancun.

The cost of entry may vary from 100 to 250 Mexican Pesos, depending on the season and if it is for locals or foreigners, also it opens every day from 8 am to 5:30 pm.
